The Story Behind Concon
My First Rhythm Game Merchandise
Before the convention booths, before Anime Expo, and before the bigger collections, there was Sunnyvale Golfland.
The very first place I sold rhythm game merchandise wasn't at a major convention.
It was at Sunnyvale Golfland in Northern California.
At the time, I had no idea what would happen. I just knew I wanted to create something for people who loved the same games I did.
To my surprise, people connected with it immediately.
For the first time, it felt like I had found my audience.
The players understood the references. They recognized the characters. They shared the same experiences of chasing scores, grinding difficult charts, and spending way too much time at the arcade.
Instead of trying to appeal to everyone, I was creating something specifically for a community I was already part of.
That was the important lesson.
Niche does not mean small in the way people think. It can mean specific, loyal, and very ready to support something made by someone who actually plays the games.
From Sunnyvale Golfland to Bigger Events
After Sunnyvale Golfland, I began bringing my rhythm game merchandise to larger events, including MAGFest. The response was incredible. Despite rhythm games being a niche hobby, I quickly learned that there were far more fans out there than I had imagined.
People were excited to find merchandise dedicated to the games they loved. Many players told me they rarely saw fan-made products for beatmania IIDX, DanceDanceRevolution, Sound Voltex, Pop'n Music, maimai, and other rhythm game series.
Seeing that enthusiasm gave me confidence that there was a place for this kind of merchandise within the community.
The Rhythm Game Products I Still Love Making
One thing I'm especially proud of is the variety of rhythm game merchandise that Concon offers. From classic BEMANI titles to modern arcade rhythm games, I've always tried to create products that represent as many corners of the rhythm game community as possible.
DDR Vivid Arrows Dark Shirt
A wearable arcade piece for players who want DDR arrows without explaining the entire hobby first.

Product photos are useful, but rhythm game merch makes the most sense when you see it together: shirts, charms, lanyards, card holders, and convention table displays all in one place.

beatmania IIDX merch and favorite-game energy
Rhythm game card holders for arcade regulars
Making Merch for More Than One Game
Today, that journey has taken me all the way to Anime Expo, where I continue to share my passion for rhythm games with fans from around the world.
My goal has never been to focus on just one game. I want every rhythm game fan to find something that makes them feel represented, whether they play IIDX, DDR, SDVX, maimai, Chunithm, Pump It Up, or something else entirely.
Those early events helped prove that there was a real audience for rhythm game merchandise, and they inspired me to keep expanding what Concon could become.
Every time someone walks up to my table and recognizes a niche arcade reference, it still feels like that first Sunnyvale Golfland moment again: someone sees the thing, understands it immediately, and knows it was made by another player.
