OffKai Expo 2026 Recap: My Favorite VTuber Convention of the Year

Another OffKai has come and gone, and honestly... I already miss it.

There is something special about OffKai that feels different from almost every other convention I attend. Larger anime conventions are incredible in their own way, but OffKai feels like a giant gathering of people who all share the same specific passion for VTubers, online creators, community memes, and the strange magic of meeting internet friends in real life.

Whether you came to meet your oshi, discover a new indie VTuber, attend concerts, browse Artist Alley, collect ribbons, or spend way too much money on cute merch, there was something for everyone.

First of all, thank you to everyone who stopped by my booth.

Whether you bought a sticker, picked up a print, grabbed a charm, looked through the VTuber merch, or simply said hello, I genuinely appreciate every single person who came by.

One of my favorite parts of conventions is not just selling merchandise. It is getting to talk with people who love the same games, VTubers, characters, and communities that inspired me to create my art in the first place.

Those conversations are what make long convention weekends worth it. Booth setup is tiring, travel is tiring, inventory is tiring, and somehow the table always needs one more thing fixed. But then someone gets excited over a design, recognizes their oshi, or tells me they found my shop online, and suddenly the whole weekend feels worth it again.

Why OffKai Feels Different

OffKai has a unique atmosphere that is difficult to describe until you have experienced it yourself.

It is a convention built around VTubers, but it also celebrates artists, musicians, indie creators, cosplayers, fans, and the people who help make the community what it is. OffKai's official site describes it as a VTuber-focused convention where "online friends meet," and that really is the feeling.

Everywhere you look, people are making new friends, taking photos together, trading recommendations, talking about creators, or discovering someone they had never watched before. It feels less like a standard convention and more like a community reunion.

That is what makes OffKai stand out. It is not just about guests or panels. It is about the small moments between people who understand the same references, follow the same creators, and get excited about the same extremely specific internet things.

Artist Alley Was Incredible

Walking through Artist Alley is always one of my favorite parts of OffKai.

There are so many talented artists creating merchandise inspired by VTubers, anime, rhythm games, gacha games, internet culture, and original characters. It is inspiring to see everyone's creativity on display and to meet artists whose work I have admired online for years.

Artist Alley at a VTuber convention has its own kind of energy. You can see which creators people are excited about, which designs are becoming popular, and which community jokes have escaped the timeline and turned into stickers, charms, prints, and desk displays.

If you visited Artist Alley this year, I hope you found something that made you smile. That is always the best part of con shopping: finding the one item that feels like it was made exactly for your corner of fandom.

The Post-OffKai Feeling Was Everywhere

One thing I love after a convention is seeing everyone's post-con posts. People share hauls, photos, meetups, thank-yous, and those very real post-con feelings where you are exhausted but already want to go back.

That is the part of OffKai that keeps sticking with me. The event ends, everyone goes home, and then the timeline turns into one big scrapbook of people realizing how much the weekend meant to them.

The Best Part Is the People

When people ask what makes OffKai special, I do not immediately think about the concerts or guests.

I think about the people.

Seeing online friends in person. Meeting customers who have supported my work for years. Talking with fellow artists after the exhibit hall closes. Watching people get excited when they find merch of their favorite VTuber.

Those moments are what stick with me long after the convention ends.

Until Next Year

Now comes the less exciting part.

Unpacking. Restocking inventory. Sleeping for what feels like an entire weekend. Somehow finding business cards, sticker backing paper, and tiny scraps of booth supplies in places they definitely should not be.

The post-con crash is real, but so are the memories.

OffKai 2027 Is Already on the Calendar

The good news is that OffKai is already coming back. According to OffKai Expo's official announcement, OffKai Expo 2027 will return to the San Jose McEnery Convention Center from April 16 to April 18, 2027.

That makes the post-con sadness a little easier. There is already another OffKai to look forward to, and I am already thinking about what I want to bring next time.
